Local Agenda:

  • To start 2009 in a fun way, Lauren Hillary, the OC PUG Leader, and I have decided to combine our PUGs on Monday the 19th (Martin Luther King Day) at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.  There are a lot of exhibits, but we are going specifically to see the Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913–2008.  (Of course you are welcome to come early to see whatever you like.)
  • We will meet at 5pm at the Los Angeles Times Central Court to go over the latest happenings with Pictage, and then we will head into the Vanity Fair Portraits Exhibition.
  •  LACMA is having Target-sponsored Free Mondays, and the 19th is one of those Mondays.  I have been trying to find out if this Free Day also applies the Vanity Fair exhibit, but it is proving impossible to get a real person on the phone.  Adult admission is normally $12, but the museum policy is “Pay What You Wish After 5pm” anyway, so bring a little money just in case.
  • Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913–2008

    October 26, 2008–March 1, 2009 | Hammer Building

Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913–2008 is the first major exhibition to bring together the magazine's historic archive of rare vintage prints with its contemporary photographs. The exhibition explores the ways in which photography and celebrity have interacted and changed, with portraits from the magazine's early period (1913–1936) displayed in conjunction with works from the contemporary Vanity Fair (1983–present). The Los Angeles presentation, which is sponsored by Burberry, will be the only U.S. stop on the exhibition's international tour. Photographers to be represented include Cecil Beaton, Harry Benson, Julian Broad, Imogen Cunningham, Annie Leibovitz, Man Ray, Mary Ellen Mark, Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts, Edward Steichen, Mario Testino, and Bruce Weber.

This is a collaboration between Vanity Fair and the National Portrait Gallery, London.

For extra added fun, we are also planning on going to “Life on Wilshire” (where we had our Christmas party) afterward for dinner and discussion. That address is 6311 Wilshire Blvd.

I really hope to see you there!!

Jules passion for photography started when she picked up her first camera at age twelve and it hasn’t stopped. She was a very nostalgic child which may be why photographing weddings and families appeals to her. Her artistic documentation of weddings and families has earned Jules a successful photography business, speaking engagements and published weddings and gained her respect throughout the wedding industry. She graduated with a film studies degree from UC Santa Barbara and moved to Los Angeles to work in the film industry before becoming a full-time wedding photographer in 1999.
